Although there are many hydraulic actuators available today, very few are designed to deliver superior fidelity in force and motion. When using actuators that are not specifically designed for testing applications, problems manifest quickly in higher operating costs, lower attainable top frequencies due to distortion, less fault-tolerance to side-loading and buckling, more leaking due to the number of cycles required for fatigue testing and ultimately a much lower overall life expectancy, requiring additional replacement costs.

Longer Performance Life
MTS DuraGlide 244G2 Actuators are made with an environmentally friendly, RoHS-compliant, rod surface coating and proprietary surface-finishing processes that set the industry standard for durability, longevity and performance. The rod treatment increases actuator life expectancy by 10x over actuators with conventionally chrome-plated rods. The DuraGlide 244G2 Actuators also contain sensors that measure use cycles and wear status, enabling the condition-based monitoring that will help lengthen overall product life and protect uptime.
Increased Testing Fidelity
The new coating reduces rod banding by 10x as well. Without having to adjust for rod banding, test engineers can keep the optimal zero stroke position and decrease the need for crosshead position changes that can disturb load train alignment. The ability to retain the zero stroke position over hundreds of millions of punishing cycles, will give more consistent testing results and speed the testing process. In addition, higher fidelity actuators reduce the distortion that can lead to measurement uncertainty and save time by producing statistically significant results in fewer batches.
Because the DuraGlide 244G2 actuator has the same pin-to-pin dimensions as the previous generation, it can easily replace first generation Series 244 Actuators in existing configurations. Alternatively, with an actuator remanufacture, the features of the new actuators can be applied to first generation actuators to increase their performance and fidelity.
More Standard Sizes
These actuators come in a greater variety of standard stroke lengths to meet a wider range of fixturing dimensions. They are available from 100 – 500 mm (4 – 20 inches, in 2-inch increments) and with force ratings from 15 – 1000 kN (3.3 – 220 kip).
