MTS Introduces Spinning Wheel Integrated Force Transducer (SWIFT®) for Small Vehicles

World’s smallest wheel force transducer now available for motorcycles, ATVs and other small vehicles

Eden Prairie, Minn. – October 24, 2007
– MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: MTSC) today announced the extension of its wheel force transducer line to include a sensor designed for small vehicle use. Manufacturers can now create design targets, validate analytical models and provide control information for the physical testing of small vehicles with the MTS SWIFT 10 wheel force transducer. This versatile sensor can be used on a wide variety of vehicles, including: motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), metro or city cars, small tractors, golf carts, motorized rickshaws, and turf maintenance equipment.

Designed to be used on wheels as small as seven inches in diameter, the MTS SWIFT 10 sensor is the smallest rotating, six-axis wheel force transducer available today. This latest addition to the SWIFT family has the ability to accommodate high dynamic load conditions and the extreme environmental conditions of rain, snow, heat and cold.

“MTS SWIFT sensors are well known for their patented features such as the flexure isolated octatube design which allows for the highest load capacity to weight ratio. This high strength-to-weight ratio is invaluable when measuring the forces typically encountered by small vehicles, like the impact of uneven driving surfaces, jumps and sharp turns. The SWIFT 10 transducer will help manufacturers determine the real loads placed on their vehicles, so they can measure a wide variety of vehicle attributes ranging from suspension durability to rollover propensity,” said Scott Bieganek, product manager, MTS.

The MTS SWIFT sensors are also available in four additional sizes to fit passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles. Their unique one-piece design and highly durable construction make the MTS SWIFT sensors extremely reliable and accurate, so manufacturers and suppliers can be assured of valid and relevant measurement data.
