Seismic Simulation
Seismic simulation accurately replicates earthquake ground motions in a laboratory. It is used to evaluate the performance and durability of columns, beams, components and other substructures of buildings, bridges, dams and other civil structures (as well as models of these structures) under seismic loading. Tests are conducted with actuator-driven or shaking tables systems with uniaxial, biaxial or multiaxial loading capabilities. These simulators can work independently or may be combined to evaluate large specimens. Seismic simulation may also involve hybrid simulation, which combines a mechanical test of a substructure with a computer model of a larger structure.
With more than 40 years of experience providing leading research teams with complete solutions for seismic simulation, MTS brings the expertise and technology to help you perform accurate, repeatable seismic simulation tests. We also offer specialized software for quasi-static and real-time hybrid simulation. Offerings of particular interest for seismic simulation testing include:
• 6DOF seismic simulators to meet a range of specimen sizes and dynamic motion
requirements
• Simulators for large specimens or those that can be evaluated with fewer degrees of
freedom
• Cost-effective uniaxial (1.5 m and 3.0 m) and biaxial (3.0 m) seismic simulators
• Seismic control software for high-fidelity, high-bandwidth adaptive control
• Digital controllers that enable advanced control and data filtering
• Heavy-duty, fatigue-rated hydraulic actuators
• Quiet, clean, high-performance hydraulic power units
