MTS Planar Biaxial Testing Systems combine modular load frame technology, innovative centroid control, advanced alignment and integrated environmental chambers to investigate true, in-plane stress states of materials, or biaxial loading of design elements.

These systems employ multiaxial loading technology to apply and measure in-plane stresses in both the X and Y axes. System features include high load axis stiffness for low stored energy, and integral actuators with high lateral stiffness to minimize buckling. The system also accommodates large specimens in a compact, space-saving design. Advanced yet intuitive software makes centroid control easy to implement.

Typical applications include 2D planar studies of material property stress states, 2D planar high-cycle fatigue and crack growth studies, and tests under environmental conditions with elevated temperatures. Materials that can be tested include metals, alloys, composites and more.
