Motorsports Vehicle Optimization

Optimizing motorsports vehicles is a complex process that may involve many discrete tests, ranging from complete vehicle testing and aero-mapping to vehicle suspension and gearbox component testing. All of these tests help manufacturers of F1, LeMans, NASCAR, IndyCar and other race cars perfect sophisticated vehicle designs to maximize speed, power and control. Specific areas of focus include gearbox durability, performance tuning, lubrication and drag torque as well as suspension durability and tuning.

MTS brings an unparalleled track record of success to motorsports optimization, offering the innovative test technologies and real-world expertise motorsports teams need to improve vehicle design, development and setup. Our capabilities include the application of road input forces up to 75 Hz for suspension testing, high-speed engine input (including engine firing) and pulsation up to 22,000 rpm for gearbox testing. Other important offerings for this application include:

Multiaxial vehicle loading systems for output shaft road simulation coupled to the
   gearbox test systems
7-post test rigs that accurately simulate both road and aerodynamic inputs, using
aero-mapping capabilities and low reflected inertia down-force actuators
Kinematic and compliance test systems for precisely measuring how setups affect
   performance
High-frequency, spindle-coupled suspension test systems with 6 DOF control for
   complex geometries and setups
High-angle tilt table (“rodeo rig”) for gearbox oil slosh simulation coupled with
   high-speed input motor
Single-corner roadway systems that test quarter-car suspensions with a moving
   roadway
Intuitive application software for quickly and easily configuring and running tests
Digital controllers with high channel density, high accuracy signal conditioning and
   superior configurability
