Noise, Vibration and Harshness Testing
Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) testing involves subjecting a full vehicle, component or subassembly to vibrations at different frequencies, as a means of determining mode shapes and isolating buzzes, squeaks and rattles. Tesults can be input into in a computer model for modal analysis purposes. Full-vehicle NVH tests typically incorporate “4-poster” test systems and environmental chambers for accurately simulating real-world service conditions in the test lab. Component and subassembly NVH tests are most commonly performed using a shake table.
The world’s leading vehicle manufacturers and suppliers depend on MTS software, hardware and expertise to help them complete their NVH tests with accuracy and efficiency, helping them to optimize their design and development processes. MTS pioneered many of the technologies for this type of testing decades ago, which set the global industry standard to this day. The MTS NVH offering comprises:
• Industry-standard, “4-poster” tire-coupled road simulators
• Versatile, user-friendly software with powerful test design capabilities, including
best-in-class end-of-line test software
• Multiaxial simulation tables featuring high stiffness-to-mass ratios for maximum
payload capacity
• Environmental chambers for adjusting test temperature and humidity
• Digital controllers with high channel density, high capacity and superior configurability
• Responsive global service and support, including cost-effective proactive
maintenance programs

Model 320 Tire-Coupled Road Simulators
Apply vertical forces through the tire of a vehicle to create vehicle responses nearly identical to those generated by real road surfaces. Accurately simulate everything from small road surface vibrations to high-velocity pothole strikes.
