Composites Testing Tools

Advanced composites materials are increasingly used to meet lightweighting requirements and create more fuel-efficient vehicles, lighter aircraft, more durable consumer goods and stronger load-carrying structures. Yet understanding the performance characteristics of these new materials can be challenging. The variance in composition and structure of composites test specimens often make it difficult to get accurate data. To help make sure your tests provide the information you need, MTS has created some new tools to help you test to international standards or your own tailored manufacturing specifications.

Test Method Tech Notes

MTS has several Test Method Tech Notes that describe a specific testing standard and outline the components necessary to test to that standard. We currently have Test Method Tech Notes for the following composites testing standards:
  • ASTM D2344; ASTM D3039; ASTM D3410; ASTM D3518; ASTM D6641
  • EN 2377; EN 2561; EN 2597; EN 6031
  • ISO 14126; ISO 14129; ISO 14130; ISO 527-4; ISO 527-5
Software Templates

Testing to a specific standard becomes simple with predefined testing templates. MTS has software templates for many composites testing standards, and can build custom templates around specific standards not in our library. We currently have MTS TestSuite™ TW Software templates for testing to the following standards:
  • Tensile: ISO 527-4; ISO 527-5; ASTM D3039
  • Compression: ISO 14126; ASTM D6641
  • Flexure: ISO 14125
  • In-Plane Shear: ISO 14129; ASTM D3518
  • Interlaminar Shear: ISO 14130; ASTM D2344
