To meet this growing need, MTS now offers two lines of extremely rugged, highly reliable impact test systems required to understand fracture toughness in a wide range of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) applications.
Charpy Testing for Metals
The MTS Exceed E22 Series Pendulum Impact Test System for Metals is specifically designed to test the structural metals used in construction, pipes, pressure vessels, nuclear power containment vessels, and structures for marine, automotive and aerospace vehicles.
These extremely rugged and reliable test systems perform Charpy, Izod and tensile impact tests. By integrating a solid test frame with high-resolution electrical control and comprehensive safety features, the E22 Series systems provide accurate, cost-efficient capabilities for QA/QC environments and other high-strength applications.
Because impact tests demand careful attention to operator safety, E22 Series systems are built to support safe operation. Each system includes a standard enclosure that surrounds the entire testing area to contain specimen fragments. A specimen collecting device automatically collects the fractured specimen, eliminating the need for the operator to handle damaged material. The transmission system uses precision bearings and a two-stage reducer for smooth and steady pendulum operation. And an interlock feature stops the pendulum in the event of power loss or if the machine enclosure is opened. Additional features include:
• Powered lift sets hammer at desired height automatically
• Anvils can be changed quickly and easily for various tests
• Touchscreen display shows absorbed impacting energy, impacting strength
and pendulum angle
• Rugged cast iron frame that absorbs shock and vibration
• Reliable disc brake for quick pendulum braking
• Pendulum design that helps prevent stuck samples
• High-resolution encoder for accurate measurement of impact angle
An optional specimen auto-feeding subsystem is available for testing samples at low temperatures.
Charpy Testing for Plastics
The MTS Exceed E21 Series Pendulum Impact Test System for Plastics provides reliable testing of plastics, nylon, hard rubber, glass fiber reinforced plastics, electrical insulation materials and more. Impact testing is of particular interest to compounders developing proprietary material mixes for the molded and semi-reinforced plastics used in everything from furniture to aircraft.
Depend on the E21 Series systems to deliver accurate, repeatable results for QA/QC environments and other high-strength tests. These systems perform Charpy, Izod and tensile impact tests. Each one combines a solid test frame with high-resolution electrical control and safety features, such as a test enclosure that protects operators and other equipment from debris and a disc brake for quick pendulum stoppage. Other features of these systems include:
