Introducing Model 320 ePost™ Tire-coupled Road SimulatorsResponding to industry demands for cleaner, quieter and more economical mechanical testing, MTS now offers the Model 320 ePost Tire-coupled Road Simulator, a portable, highly efficient electric/pneumatic four-poster for performing full-vehicle Buzz, Squeak and Rattle (BSR) and Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) testing in both production and test laboratory environments. ePost simulators are available in three models to accommodate a broad range of vehicle sizes: the ePost 2k is designed for motorcycles, ATVs and small cars; the ePost 4k accommodates passenger cars; and the ePost 6k is intended for larger cars and light trucks. They scan also be integrated within environmental chambers for testing at temperatures ranging from -40F to 160F.
ePost simulators employ innovative hybrid linear electric/pneumatic actuators to achieve significantly reduced operating and maintenance costs. Developed originally for highly portable track and laboratory based damper test systems, these actuators feature a patented hybrid design that integrates ironless core electromagnetic linear motors, which deliver dynamic force and motion, with pneumatic cylinders that provide static support. The performance and efficiency advantages of this design are numerous. Ironless core linear motors offer low mass, higher frequency response and high-velocity waveform fidelity. There are none of the cogging effects seen with iron-core motors, and the motor’s focused U-channel magnets minimize radiated electric fields. The actuators’ pneumatic cylinders effectively reduce current demand and operating temperatures, eliminating the need for complex water cooling systems or chillers - air cooling will suffice.
ePost simulators are powered by an electric drive system, rather than a hydraulic power unit (HPU), which delivers current on-demand for significantly higher operating efficiency. Additionally, the elimination of hydraulic distribution requirements (pumps, fluid, hoses, accumulators, water cooling) allows for a cleaner, safer more streamlined test environment and reduced maintenance needs.
