Enhancing Vehicle Performance Through Cornering Simulation

Chassis engineers have historically relied on track testing, analytical models and gut instinct in trying to understand how a suspension system will perform under the strain of operating conditions.

Jake Rawn, MTS applications engineer, discusses how the MTS Kinematic & Compliance (K&C) Measurement System can now be used to not only measure key suspension parameters, but to rapidly and systematically simulate cornering events. Kinematic and compliance measurement applies known displacement or force to the suspension and measures position changes at the wheel center. This allows test engineers to quickly gain a deeper understanding of the systems and components that affect driving performance.
