MTS Geo Civil Seismic Testing

New 469D Seismic Table Control Software Now Available

MTS recently integrated several new features into 469D Seismic Table Control Software, which is used worldwide to drive standard MTS uni- and bi-axial shake tables and custom 3-6DOF seismic simulators.

Key among the new features is the ground-breaking Specimen Dynamics Compensation (SDC), which has the potential to change fundamentally the way seismic tests on shake tables are run. SDC is a feedback compensator that effectively removes the resonant effects of nonlinear time-varying test specimens from the motion dynamics of a shake table in real time, providing a safer, higher-fidelity and more efficient alternative to conventional iteration techniques.

469D Seismic Table Control Software also incorporates a host other new features, including:

• Quick-Tune: This feature is used to flatten the frequency response and reduce cross-coupling into other axes. It presents a vastly more user-friendly Adaptive Inverse Control (AIC) capability, requiring far fewer keystrokes and test expertise to use effectively.

• Soft-Stop: This feature is designed to ensure the gentle ramping down of shake table motion when a limit is encountered.

• Soft-Start: Developed to enhance user convenience, Soft-Start is used to ensure smooth initiation of table motion, eliminating the need to switch between displacement and acceleration modes.

• Adaptive Feedforward Compensation (AFC): AFC provides an automated solution for overcoming tuning difficulties for some gains of MTS’ Three-Variable-Controller (TVC). AFC can also be used to flatten the frequency response adaptively during testing, and to reduce delay in Hybrid Control (model-in-the-loop) systems.

• Resonance Compensator Auto-tuning: This feature automatically determines optimum settings for the resonance compensators in MTS’ Three-Variable-Controller (TVC), which serve to compensate table resonances and actuator bowstring modes.
