Critical design differences make actuators engineered for testing far superior to those produced for industrial applications.

Why Any Actuator Won't Do for Aerospace Testing

Some aerospace test labs purchase actuators from industrial suppliers to save money, assuming that all actuators are essentially equal. While industrial actuators may look the same as those designed for testing, the two actually perform differently, especially over the long term. Because industrial actuators are neither engineered nor tested to undergo millions of cycles, they run a greater risk of reaching structural failure, jeopardizing both lab personnel and valuable test articles.

MTS senior product manager Sterling Anderson details the specific design differences between industrial and “test” actuators, to explain why the latter provides a far more cost-efficient choice for static and dynamic aerospace structural testing.
