MTS Names Software Vice President

Eden Prairie, Minn., January 29, 2003 – MTS Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: MTSC) today announced that Mr. Douglas Marinaro, has joined the Company as vice president, Software and Consulting Services.

Sidney W. Emery, Jr., chairman and CEO, stated, "I am delighted that Doug is bringing his software market development credentials to our management team as he will be leading the implementation of our software and consulting growth strategy. Doug has a solid background in analytical software sales, marketing and business development and is very familiar with the automotive, aerospace and industrial markets that MTS serves. Leveraging MTS's strong reputation in physical testing into the virtual testing marketplace is expected to be a significant part of our future."

Prior to joining MTS, Marinaro was vice president, marketing for Toolwire, Inc., a northern California design software company.  From 1994 to 1999, he held senior sales and marketing positions at MSC Software, including management of the CAE Data Management business. From 1990 through MSC's acquisition of PDA in 1994, Marinaro managed PDA Engineering's MVISION Business Unit.

Marinaro has BS and MS degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in Materials Engineering.
