Dana Selects MTS for Truck Axle Development

Eden Prairie, Minn., July 7, 2003 - MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: MTSC) announced today that Dana Corporation has selected SWIFT® wheel force transducers from MTS for the development of truck axles and other large vehicle systems. The order is valued at approximately $250,000.

"MTS's SWIFT HT wheel force transducers will give us information that we need to make our virtual development process faster and better," explained Paul Pollock, Chief Engineer, Advanced Products, at Dana's Commercial Vehicle Systems Division. "Specifically, we'll use them to acquire duty cycle data for heavy truck wheels that we'll then use to correlate and validate CAE models. We plan to apply the SWIFTs to development projects for truck axles, brakes, suspension systems and trailer axles and suspensions."

"The selection by Dana of our SWIFT product line is a significant milestone as it completes our market penetration from passenger cars to light trucks and SUVs to heavy trucks," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS Chairman and CEO. "MTS provides the most comprehensive line of wheel force transducers into the worldwide vehicle development market place. Dana's decision continues to strengthen our position as the market leader."

"Our SWIFT product for heavy trucks represents the latest technology advances in wheel force transducers," said Mike Schulz, MTS Product Manager, Wheel Force Transducers. "These products were designed to meet the demanding requirements of heavy truck development and will enable engineers to test at the highest maximum forces available in the industry. As a world-class supplier to the ground vehicles industry, Dana's decision makes this a particularly significant sale. Since introducing our SWIFT product line in 1998, we have rapidly achieved market leadership with nearly three hundred units delivered worldwide."

SWIFT wheel force transducers provide a convenient and highly accurate means of acquiring road-load data from all types of ground vehicles, whether on the road, test track, or in the laboratory. SWIFT transducers are in use today at major automotive OEMs, including Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Renault, Ferrari, Honda, and Toyota, and at many Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
