PSA Peugeot Citroën Selects MTS To Provide State-of-the-Art Road Simulator And Upgrade Legacy Simulation System
Eden Prairie, Minn., May 31, 2005 – MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: MTSC) today announced a contract with PSA Peugeot Citroën to deliver a state-of-the-art road simulator and provide services to upgrade an existing road simulator system. This agreement enables PSA to significantly enhance its passenger vehicle durability testing program.
Instead of outfitting a test vehicle with bulky instrumentation and driving it over proving grounds, PSA engineers will be able to conveniently collect data directly from the road simulator. The Model 329 Road Simulator offers six degree-of-freedom (6DOF) control. The system’s precise control enables engineers to access the most accurate simulation information for modeling, analysis, design and virtual testing.
“We are pleased to deliver a Model 329 Road Simulator to PSA and to help PSA extend the useful life of its legacy road simulator system,” said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS chairman and chief executive officer. “The MTS Model 329 Road Simulator is a great example of our ability to bring the test track into the laboratory. We are providing a total testing solution for PSA including mechanical fixturing, hydromechanical components, a digital control system, instrumentation and RPC software.”
One unique feature of MTS’ Model 329 Road Simulator, not available in other road simulators, is its steering control and assessment system. MTS’ road simulator allows engineers to test axle assemblies under severe conditions such as extreme maneuvering events.
"When PSA needs to test a new rear ‘H’ axle using weights on each wheel, MTS' 329 road simulator will ensure good control of camber and steer moment and so will permit an accurate reproduction for the durability test program," said Pierre Urbaniak, lab manager for PSA Vélizy.
MTS will showcase a wide range of its testing technologies at the 2005 Automotive Testing Expo Europe, May 31 – June 2 in Stuttgart Germany.
