A new
composite
process
takes wing
|
| |
Dr. Yuichiri
Aioki and
his Advanced
Composite
Group at JAXA
are focusing
on the new
technology
of
Vacuum-assisted
Resin
Transfer
Molding (VaRTM)
to explore
its
potential
for low-cost
composite
component
and
structure
fabrication.
To prove
that parts
yielded by
the new
process
could
withstand
complex
aerospace
loading, the
team
embarked on
a testing
program that
included
static
testing of a
full-scale
wing
structure
and fatigue
testing of
subcomponents.
MTS helped JAXA meet
its program
objectives
with an
offering of
precision
digital
controls,
robust load
frames and
actuators,
advanced
application
software,
and expert
service and
support.
